I DO IT MYSELF!

“I do it myself!” she proclaims shoving the spoon into her strawberry banana yogurt and successfully eating about a fourth of the spoonful while the rest is splattered on the table and all over her face. It is always so frustrating to me when she wants to do things her way when I know my way is better, easier, and a whole lot cleaner. But as she declared her independence, making an even bigger mess, I saw some disappointing similarities between my daughter and myself.
I too often declare, “I do it myself!” to the One who knows so much better than I do. I try to shove heaping spoonfuls of life into my mouth thinking I know just what to do. But as I do, I too spill all over the floor and it shows up splattered on my face and in my disappointments. Mommas, we are not so much different than our toddlers crying out, “I do it!”
And as I look at my daughter shaking my head smiling, I imagine our Heavenly Father doing the same thing, saying, “Dear child, I made you; I love you, and in my wisdom I know exactly what you should be doing at this exact moment to be soaked in my joy and peace. Put down the spoon and let me feed you, guide you, and speak truth to you.” Allow his wisdom to provide you with the confidence and peace that only comes from KNOWING our creator’s will is greater than ours, his plans more beautiful than we could imagine. Live every moment soaked in his grace waiting for him to tell you what’s best.
