Let's Get Real

Hello social media! I have something you may have never seen before, real life. Not pictures of perfectly remodeled living rooms or just picked up playrooms here; no Pinterest worth creations or squeaky clean kitchens. This is my very real Monday house. On weekends I swear off house work, and when I get home on Monday afternoons this is what I come home to. What you can’t see is the left out playdough under the kitchen table, the magnet dress up dolls by the fridge and me, in the middle, crying a little and completely overwhelmed. Does it always look this bad? No. But sometimes it does. And while we’re getting real here, I’m guessing you’ve probably had a moment or two like this. And the mess in your house sometimes has you feeling like you too are a mess. And your inability to put it all together makes you feel a little bit out of control.

As I wiped a tear away, kneeling down to ask for help, I was reminded that I don’t have to be in control. That my ability to keep the laundry folded, the kitchen picked up, and my daughter’s playdough from drying out is NOT a reflection on me. I am not a mess. I am not broken. I do not need to be fixed. I am a dearly loved child of God, made perfect through His perfect Son, who does not give one rip about my ability to keep it all together. He does, however, care about my ability to see Him in the midst of life’s messes as he reaches down to pick me up off my knees, readjust my perspective, and fill me up with His joy and peace right there in my pile of laundry.

You too are a perfect dearly loved child of God; take a moment to thank him right in the middle of your mess.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.” Romans 15:13

P.S. These rooms were not altered to make you feel better about your messes. This is exactly what my house looked like today. But if it does make you feel better, then that makes me happy :)
