What will he do with your dandelions?

Oh the dandelion bouquet. While my husband is out there meticulously picking and spraying every last one of you ugly buggers, my daughter has gathered up as many as her little hands could hold, cradling them like a treasure and wearing a delighted smile as she presented her pretty yellow bouquet to mommy. Surely all of you mommas out there have received this special gift, and like me you probably retrieved a vase and proudly displayed them beautifying your dining table. While the world sees them as weeds, she saw them as gems, not caring what the world thought.

It’s moments like these and my daughter’s wisdom that make me wonder if I let the world’s opinion sneak into other areas of my life. I often allow what the world thinks of me to affect my perception of myself, too impatient, too anal, too tired, to insignificant to make a difference. Sadly this ultimately affects who I am and my relationship with Jesus. But the Bible has a different story for us dear friends! According to the world Abraham was too old, Moses was too inarticulate, Timothy was too young, but God called and used them in insurmountable ways.

So bring him your dandelions, your insecurities, your insignificance. Pick them and display them proudly. Put all you have to offer, even your weaknesses, in a vase and offer them to him. He promises to display them to beautify and glorify his kingdom! I can’t wait to see what he does with your dandelions!

Hear (I mean really hear with your heart) what Paul has to say to you about how chosen and precious you and your weaknesses are.

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 1:26-30
