"I'll just put these shoes here..."

Last night I walked to her room as I always do to open her door and tiptoe in, bending down to steal one last good night kiss. But last night I cracked the door and saw something strange. Two of my shoes were placed right by her mattress on the floor. I remembered that day she had been walking around in my shoes and they had landed near her closet. But now they were sitting, one in front of the other, on the blanket I lay on to say prayers and sing Let It Go just one more time. “Hmm,” I thought. “Why would she move my shoes next to her bed?”

Being two, she couldn’t tell me, so I’ll probably never know why she moved them, but it got me thinking. Maybe she just wanted something to remind her that I’m always there. “I know my mommy didn’t leave, but I can’t see her right now. I’ll just put these shoes here to remind me, to make me feel safe.”

We too sometimes forget that our protector, our help, our Father is always there. Sometimes we’re so full of worry, stress, or fear; we forget there is someone just waiting to take it all away. Today I want these words to be the shoes next to your bed; I want to remind you of the never changing, ever present help that can’t wait to provide you with peace so that you too can take a deep breath and rest in his presence. Write this truth some place where you will see it every day so when “the waters roar” and “the mountains quake” you are reminded of the refuge you have in the one who loves you as his dear child.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging

Psalm 46:1-3
